Remembering our friend, Mike ('66), who made the
ultimate sacrifice for our country. Mrs. Paul's Birthday Get-Together
Old 4th Grade Class ( Class of '65) Photo sent in by
Mathilde Halcomb
This was taken August 8, 1954 at
our home on Love Street, Ferriday, LA.
Those I can identify and are not
hidden are... from left to right:
My first cousin Judy Jones in
glasses holding her nieces & my second cousins B.B. & Lydia
Bush. "The Birthday Girl" looking away from the camera... more
concerned with whatever is going on behind her. Could be Nancy
Ruth Dillon & Phyllis Love(just not sure as I cannot see them
well enough) right behind me to the right. Little blonde girl
who I cannot identify. My second cousin, Robbie Bush (brother
to B.B. & Lydia). Lou Love, curly haired girl I do not
recognize, my second cousin Roger Carter & his little sister,
Marguerita peeping from behind him, John Alwood, Vickie Vollmer
& my cousin Betty Serio.
If anyone can identify the
"mystery kids" in this picture, e-mail me at
kittywake8845@hotmail.com.
Love & kisses!!!! Kathy Serio

We heard from Donice Alverson, and I have added her info to the BIO
page.
Note from Carolyn: Connie Varnado Fisher needs our prayers.
Her cancer has come back.
Sadie Love and Ira Rogillio on vacation.
Sela Katherine ("Lady Kate") was born on July 13, 2007, in New
Orleans, where Shannon and Lawrence are now living. She weighed 8'13"
ounces. Just wanted to show off my heart. I did not know that something so little could take all of your attention.
Her name is Grace Barnette Buras.
(Born June 13, 2007 at 3:28 pm in
Baton Rouge to Samantha and Jeff Buras. Weighed 7lbs. 12 oz and
20 1/2 inches long)
This is a picture of her first tailgating party at Southeastern. Looks like she likes this sort of thing. I know this has made Jeff happy.

Myra
Sherrie,
Here is a bit of Ferriday trivia you may like to put on the Bulletin
Board.
How many remember Mr. Antoline's Shoe Shop in Ferriday? In 1935 he
designed a shoe heel made from cypress knee wood and applied for and
received US Patent No. 2122552.
The patent states: "The cypress knee wood grows from the root of the
cypress tree and extends above the ground. This wood not having a
decided grain allows the nails to be driven without causing the wood
to split.
This wood is much lighter than the usual cypress wood and has been
found to be extremely efficient for the purposes above set forth."
Some of us oldies may have had shoes repaired in his shop with this
heel design.

Happy 50th Wedding Anniversary, Lizzie and RedMan !
Oh, those "Good Ole Days" Birthday Parties
In number 1, with the ladies, my dad is the front row,
fourth from the left. In number 2, Gordon Wiggins is on the left and Dad is on
the right. I don't
In number 3, everyone looks familiar, but I can only call these: Front row: Mrs, F. E. Newton, Mrs. Minnie Alwood, Mrs. Lillian Sewell, Dad(John S.), Mrs. Val Ganey, Mr. H. L. Irvin, Mrs. Hodges(wife of Dr Hodges), and Edith Falkenheimer(kind of behind Mrs. Hodges) Second row: Mrs. Marilyn Wiggins, Mrs. Rucker, Mom(behind Dad and Mrs Ganey), Unknown Third row: Mrs. Ruby Irvin, Mr. J. T. Jacobs, Sr, Mrs. Vina Pankey, Mrs Lillian Jacobs, Mrs. Maxine Summerall, Mrs. W. L Person, and Mrs. Gladys Drane. So, only one name is missing from that photo(the lady behind the right shoulder of Mr. Irvin). I am indebted to the following persons for the names and background information. They mentioned other names and persons which caused me in turn to remember faces not seen for 40 years. Anna Sewell Sharp, whose mom is on the front row. Anna knew that she was installed that night as a “Worthy Matron”. Van Melson, former owner of the Dairy Bar, who remembered most of those pictured, and gave some background on several. Jarrett Ganey Reeves, who also knew several of the names, and whose mom is also in the picture. Mary P. Farmer, whose grandfather, P.H. Farmer, is shown on the front row, second from right, of the group of 12 men. Kathy Serio Butler, who lives happily with her husband and pets on Lake Sam Rayburn, and is forwarding to another friend for possible help. Add the names to the site, if you wish. Or remove. I doubt that there will be further contact after this much time. Thanks to all, Bob |
